Life Between Borders: The Nomadic Life of Curators and Artists, edited by Steven Rand and Heather Felty and published by apexart in 2014, collects essays on mobility in contemporary art — on community, artistic presence, and the nomad’s existence. ISBN 978-1-933347-65-3.

My contribution is an essay on the heightened attention travel produces: arrivals and departures stay vivid in memory, while the details of an ordinary day at home disappear. The book credits me as Director of Residency Unlimited.

Open Stitch

Open Stitch was conceived and organized with Jessie Cohan. Fifteen artists spent seven days making wearable garments at Location One under restricted conditions: working only with the materials provided, away from their own studios, and under collaborative constraints that deliberately blurred the line between art and fashion.

Production was streamed live for the duration of the seven days. The finished garments and the video documentation were then installed in the gallery.

Disenchanted Forest

A window installation for Disenchanted Forest, a summer group show at Flux Factory with Jason D. Brown, Paul Burn, and Aya Kakeda.

The exhibition took an ironic view of nature preservation, treating nature as something best kept in a jar at the natural history museum, and set museum-like contents loose in an open gallery.

Montpellier Tramway

Designed and presented a photographic project to decorate the Hôtel de Ville stop in downtown Montpellier, on the city’s new tramway line, completed in June 2000.

The project was chosen from 40 candidates while studying for the Diplôme National des Arts Plastiques at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier District. Covered in the local press.

Tribute to the Great Masters of Fauvism

The award carried a study abroad scholarship.

Metropolis — Live Score

Conceived and performed a live sound accompaniment for Fritz Lang’s silent film Metropolis, in collaboration with the Diagonal cinemas and the DRAC (Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles). Covered in the local press.

Diagonal is an independent cinema in downtown Montpellier, open since 1983.

Wool Music

Exhibited drawings and photographs at the Wool Music record store in Montpellier: first for its opening, then again around Boréalis 99. Several works sold.

Boréalis (1993–1999) was one of France’s first large legal techno festivals, held in the Montpellier region.
